Can you create the illusion of a curved surface by only using STRAIGHT lines?

 
 
REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT - Paper and Pencil Drawing
Due to Homeroom Teacher by Thursday, June 7, 2007 
20 Points (In MATH Only)
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Use 8½" by 11" white paper or colored construction paper.
  • Use at least THREE (3) colors in the drawing.
    • Use colored pencils or fine tip markers.
  • The design should FILL the paper.
  • Use a RULER to draw ALL lines.
  • The drawing must be NEAT.
  • The drawing must SHOW EFFORT.
  • The design of STRAIGHT LINES MUST CREATE the ILLUSION OF CURVES.

SUGGESTIONS:

  • The lines being connected should have the SAME number of points.
  • The color of the drawing's background should contrast with the colors in the design.
  • The points being connected can be evenly spaced OR graduated in distance.
  • The illusion will look nicer if the points are closer together.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The maximum size is 18" by 18".
  • The model MUST be structurally sound.
  • The model may be constructed with:
    • needle, thread, and paper (paper plates, cardboard, oak tag, etc.)
    • wood, nails, yarn, or wire

SUGGESTIONS:

  • If you are using a piece of wood, your model may look nicer if you paint the wood or cover it with colored paper or fabric.
